NIOS is an Open Schooling system initiative by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India taken in 1989. It was initially an effort by CBSE, which was collectively been launched and implemented as NOS (National Open School). The NOS was been changed to NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) in 2012. The primary objective of it was to provide flexible access to quality education and skill development through open and distant learning to every section of society.
Our society has various groups of learners. Within these groups are some unfortunates, such as disabled, physically or mentally challenged and other similar class of people. They were been left out from our education system over the years. NIOS has offered those class of people some quality basic education along vocational and other trainings. Unlike any other government service, these are been given through authenticated agencies with high level of efficiency. They further smoothen the process by Public Private Partnership (PPP) to provide easy access to education in remote areas. This provides a better chance to make basic predegree level of education available to them.
NIOS has also laid out a well-developed plan to conduct secondaryand senior secondary examination for these students. There will be 28 subjects in eight medium for secondary and 28 subjects in five mediums in seniorsecondary examinations. Further, the plan is to combine the academic subjects with the vocational ones at both the levels. Vocational curriculum has a huge scope for the future with the fields like Computer and IT, Engineering, Business and commerce, agriculture, Hospitality and other life enrichment programs under itsbelt of opportunity.
The primary mission of NIOS has been to universalize the school education. It aims to provide justice and social equity to the target groups by empowering them with education. Given with the current 55% of literacy amongst this section of society, it is hard enough to target absolute literacy rate for our country. Everyone must be provided with equal opportunity to fair as an Indian citizen and this is a perfect step in this direction achieve so. Our government has been one of the best on the planet in providing social justice and welfare programs and it has continued with this remarkable step At Vidya Vinyam, we aim to continue with this brilliant initiative by government of India by knitting your future with our hard efforts to make it strong. We invite you to join hands with us to make a better future for the country.
