National Institute of open schooling (NIOS) is the largest open learning system having more than 2.71 million students at present. It’s a self-governing education board of Government of India controlled by the Human Resource Development Ministry. Like other regular educational board of India as CBSE or CISCE it offers Secondary and Senior Secondary education on distance learning method. It has a mission to make available education in a significant rolling from school level to pre-degree level. To make a learning society it has various type of courses as A level for Class III and equivalent, B level for Class V and equivalent, C level for Class VIII and equivalent, Secondary for Class XI and equivalent, Senior Secondary for Class XII and equivalent and many vocational courses and life enhancement courses. NIOS works through a network of Study centres and Regional Centres in India and abroad.

Interested students may register themselves for on-demand admission in online without any cost. Online demand admission is also done through NIOS recognised Institutions, NIOS Study Centres, and NIOS Common Service Centre or Facilitation centre. There are 13(thirteen) subjects in Secondary courses and 20(twenty) subjects in Senior Secondary courses under On-Demand Admission System (ODES). The eligibility to take the admission in secondary level, a student should be fourteen years old and passed VIII class. That for senior secondary level is 15 years old and passed out secondary level of NIOS or passed secondary examination from any institute. The on-demand admission is going throughout the year. Study materials are used to deliver to the address registered by the students within 15(fifteen) working days.

In on-demand admission system students go through a fair and free environment examination process. Free from tension of examination, free from frustration of failure and free from fear of unpreparedness. NIOS learners may appear in examination when they think they are ready for it. They have also freedom to answer in the examination in their respective regional languages where as the question papers are in Hindi or in English language. They are also free to choose either one subject or all subjects for which they will appear in examination in their suitable time.
